Customer lifecycle — what it is and how to run it on WhatsApp
[object Object]
Customer lifecycle is the full path of a person with your business: how they find you, buy (or don’t), stay, buy again… or leave.
It isn’t a pretty dashboard. It’s the operational question: where is this contact right now, and what should happen next?
Typical stages (adjust to your vertical)
- Capture — first message, form, referral.
- Activation — first useful reply, demo, visit.
- Conversion — purchase / contract / completed appointment.
- Adoption — they use what they bought; they need onboarding.
- Retention — they come back, pay again, don’t go cold.
- Expansion / advocacy — upsell, review, referral.
- Reactivation or churn — silence, complaint, quiet churn.
On WhatsApp, those stages show up as conversations + tags + fields + pipeline, not a PowerPoint slide.

A short example
Lead writes on WhatsApp → tag new → pipeline New → welcome workflow → human qualifies → stage Quoted → if no reply in 3 days, reminder → Won → post-sale sequence asks for a review.
Lifecycle doesn’t replace human judgment — it organizes it.
Start without complexity theater
- Draw 5 stages max.
- Define a tag or stage per stage.
- Automate only the most painful transition (usually follow-up).
- Review weekly who got stuck.
